EU Road Trip

In early 2018, we sent some speculative emails to Efteling and Toverland about roller coaster club events, both came back with good event packages so instead of doing just one park, we decided to do both and turn this into a multi park event. Phantasialand was then thrown into the mix and we had our first European road trip event, and for some reason our only one so far.

Efteling started things off for us with an Exclusive Ride Time (ERT) session on their wooden coaster Joris en de Draak. This was followed up with group takeovers on all of their roller coasters, and of course on the Rapids.

The following day was at Toverland, we had a full day at the theme park before our ERT session on Fēnix which was new-ish at the time, and to follow up on that a behind the scenes tour around Fēnix which included a walk along the brake run. Something that happened during our day at Toverland simply cannot be ignored; one of the group members received a certificate from the ride team on Troy because they'd clocked up over 30 laps on it that day. Dedication!

Phantasialand gave us a great ending to the trip by starting our day with an ERT session on Black Mamba, and then our host Glenn walked us straight onto Chiapas. At the end of the day, we had an ERT session on Mystery Castle  where they ran it on every setting it has. Then, we had Taron to ourselves for nearly 90 minutes in the dark. Riding Taron in almost pitch black conditions was memorable, one of the best ERTs we've ever had.

The success of this trip further influenced Scott's ambitions to do a big event in America, but that had to wait a few years but the wait for another European road trip event has been even longer.
